Be Safe Out There

Be Safe Out There

The most wild April Fools Day of my life came in 2020 and I realize it was probably everyone else’s too. I had thought my family was kidding when they said my sister had broken her back and needed me to drive down to Florida from Boston to take care of her. I was wrong. A day later, fueled by nicotine, marijuana, and caffeine, I drove 24 hours straight to Wellington, Florida and stayed for what ended up being about six weeks. Taking care of Dimitra with our good friend Jen Ross helped me grow in a way. Although seeing my sister in so much pain and with little mobility reminded me of how fragile and impermanent our life is. Every night, after everyone went to bed, I had a quick session and drew. You should know that I’m a nocturnal guy and these nightly moments are how I piece together the world and who I am. Additionally, it was at this point in my life that I was just realizing that I had an inert power to turn my deepest battles and insecurities into something that people could resonate with.

While it may be on the sillier side, I think this work sums up what we were all feeling at the time. This corona is scary, dangerous and has to be chained up under the ocean like the mines in Disney’s Finding Nemo. That’s exactly what's going on here, hinting at that cool jellyfish and deep sea creature scenes as well. Incredible film. For me, it represents how my father freed me from being trapped inside my mother’s nightmare. Souls esc. Well, that’s all the inside scoop you’re getting on this one!
